Abstract

1378464 Purification of (2-cyanoethyl) ketones STAMICARBON BV 3 July 1973 [6 July 1972] 31618/73 Heading C2C (2-Cyanoethyl) ketones, obtained by the reaction of ketones with acrylonitrile in the presence of amines and/or compounds derived therefrom as catalysts, are purified by subjecting the reaction products to distillation to distil off a catalyst-containing fraction and treating the remaining reaction product with acid materials. The treatment with the acid material may be effected by passing the material over an acid ion-exchanger or by treating it with an aqueous solution having a pH below 3 and then removing the reaction product from the reaction mixture, e.g. by recovering the reaction product by separating the two liquid layers into which the mixture may separate, or by subjecting the mixture to an extraction step.
