Abstract

1378283 Splitting FRIED KRUPP GmbH 22 March 1973 13881/73 Heading B5E A method of splitting blocks 2 of artificial stone which are delivered from a stone press 1 in rows to an intermittently moving conveyer 3 with gaps between the individual blocks comprises introducing into the gaps between the blocks a series of splitting knives 5 and, during standstill of the conveyer, pressing the knives into both sides of the blocks which are thereby split. The splitting knives consists of pairs of plates 5 having external wedge-shaped ridges 6 at their lower ends, the plates being urged together about pins 7 on a frame 9 by springs 8. Intermediate plates 10 are disposed between the pairs of plates 5 and have wedge formations 11 at their lower ends whereby as the plates 10 are raised, the wedge formations urge the ridges 6 against the blocks to effect the splitting thereof. After splitting, the blocks are urged together by plates 15 actuated by hydraulic cylinders 14.
