Abstract

1377841 Hydrocarbon conversion catalysts EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 12 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 1447/72 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A process for preparing an improved crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite-containing catalyst comprises contacting a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite-containing catalyst which has become at least partially deactivated after being used in a hydrocarbon conversion process with a solution containing hydrogen ions, hydrogen precursor ions or a mixture of said ions such that the alkali metal content of said catalyst is reduced by at least 0.5 wt % based on the total weight of said partially deactivated catalyst. Examples relate to a synthetic faujasite base-exchanged with ammonium and magnesium ions, mixed with alumina and impregnated with palladium: this was used for hydrocracking and cylically regenerated by carbon bum-off until its activity was reduced by 53%. The used catalyst was treated by (Ex. 1A) one base exchange at room temperature with ammonium nitrate, and calcination; (Ex. 2A) three base exchanges with ammonium nitrate at room temperature; (Ex. 2B) three base exchanges with ammonium nitrate at 100‹F; and (Ex. 2C) one base exchange with ammonium nitrate at 180‹F.
