Abstract
1377332 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems ANDERSON GREENWOOD & CO 26 Jan 1973 [26 Jan 1972] 4199/73 Heading G3P A pilot valve has a port 16 supplying control pressure to a main relief valve from an inlet 14 and a vent 18 controlled by a closing member 80 associated with a diaphragm 70 having a large effective pressure area to give the member 22 a snap action. The snap action is further assisted by a baffle ring 68 which converts kinetic energy in the flowing fluid into a static pressure to assist upward movement of the diaphragm 70 against an adjustable spring-load 24. A back-up plate 32 co-operates with a shoulder 90 to limit this upward movement and the pressure at which the pilot valve again closes is adjusted by a throttle 92 in the vent. The closure member consists of an O-ring assembled in a compressed state between outer and inner members 72, 82 the outer member having a hexagonal outer edge through which pressure fluid may reach the diaphragm 70. In a second embodiment, the valve is made insensitive to pressure changes at the port 18 by providing a second diaphragm in fluid communication with the port, the diaphragm being interposed between the spring and the back-up plate.
