Abstract

1376976 Automatic control of position TELETYPE CORP 19 May 1972 23710/72 Heading G3N [Also in Division B6] The axial and rotational position of a type cylinder 21 is controlled by two electromagnetic positioning mechanisms comprising two permanent magnets 11 and 12 with associated coils 23 and 24. Each permanent magnet has a cut-away outer cylindrical portion 14, 17 and a control stub portion 15, 18. Electric coils 23 and 24 secured to the outer surface of the type cylinder cause respective axial and rotational movement of the cylinder when energized. A linear potentiometer (31) and a rotational potentiometer (41), Fig. 2 (not shown) provide feedback to the respective servo-amplifiers (36 and 43), Fig. 5 (not shown), to control the final position of the type cylinder.
