Abstract
1376014 Sewing machine SINGER CO 10 Feb 1972 [16 Feb 1971] 6195/72 Heading DIG A sewing machine 10 is provided with a jacket or case 12 which encloses the working space between the base, the upper arm, the head and the standard of the machine. Latches 74 comprising spring loaded hooks are provided to secure the jacket to slots 82 in the machine. Recesses 59, 60, 62, 64, 66 &c are provided where the edges of the panels 52, 56 of the jacket abut the machine and those edges are provided with grooves 70. Inner walls 90 define compartments (88, Figs. 3, 4 not shown) accommodating accessories. These compartments may be open at the top or, as shown, be open at the bottom when an elastic belt and catch is provided to retain the accessories. The frame of the machine, which is of plastics as is the jacket, is provided with a handle 48 which can fold down into recesses 49, 50 to clear a lid 38 hinged at 36, 37 to the frame when the latter is swung up to reveal a panel (40) supporting the zig zag and other controls. In a second embodiment, (Figs. 5, 6 not shown) the lid is hinged, at its lower edge, to an upper edge of the jacket.
