Abstract

1375951 Tufting needle bar drive EDGAR PICKERING (BLACKBURN) Ltd 30 March 1973 [3 Jan 1972] 173/72 Addition to 1335217 Heading D1G A tufting machine, having a needle bar 10 connected to a rocker shaft 26 disposed near the top of the machine framework 13B, and connected by rods 20 to eccentrics 19 on a main driving shaft 14 disposed near the bottom of the framework, has a needle bar stroke adjusting device operable from outside the framework and comprising a control arm 22 pivoted at one end to the upper end of each connecting rod 20 and having its other end 27 adjustable in an arcuate slot 28 in the framework. The centre of curvature of arc 28 is concentric with the upper end B of rod 20 when the needle bar is at bottom dead centre so that this B.D.C. position is unaltered during adjustment of end 27 in slot 28. The exterior of the slot is provided with slots 33 of ¢ inch pitch and a cooperating washer 34 is provided with tongues 35 offset # inch from the centreline of the washer so that by turning the washer through 180‹ two alternative positions of the pin 27 can be selected with reference to the same slot 33. A screw adjustment (Fig. 4 not shown) at the junction D permits adjustment of the B.D.C. position of the needles. A similar mechanism can be provided for adjusting the stroke of the tufting hooks and knives (not shown).
