1374691 Feeding sheets; applying adhesive labels MORGAN FAIREST Ltd 17 Jan 1973 [26 Jan 1972] 3603/72 Headings B8B and B8F Labels 4, Fig. 1, are separated from an onedge pile 5 by an arcuate separator blank 2, Figs. 1 and 3C, having an arcuate surface to engage the whole of the end label while compressing the pile, the surface being coated with gum, the blade 2 being rotated about an axis 9 by a rotating plate 14 through a crank-shaft journal 11 carrying an eccentric pin 13 to which the blade is pivoted, so that the blade also has a radial movement permitted by a slot 24. The blade is moved inwards when in separating position, at which time there is no rotational movement because of the opposite movements of the plate 14 and the pin 13, and is held inwards while it transfers the labels to grippers on a transfer cylinder 6 and subsequently contains a gumming roller 3, and is then moved outwardly to engage the next label. The radial movements are controlled by a stationary cam 16, roller 18, gear sector 20 and spin gear 23. The blade may be extended vertically on two blades used to separate labels from two vertically aligned piles. In another form, Fig. 7, a plurality of blades, pins 13, rollers 18, sectors 20 and gears 23 are mounted on a common plate for rotation about the axis 9 to increase the speed of separation. Applying labels.-Each gummed label is carried round the cylinder 6 by the grippers to be applied to a bottle caused by a conveyer 7, the bottle 28, Fig. 50, then being passed through wiper brushes 29 to complete the securing of the label to the bottle.
