Abstract
1373840 Stethoscopic microphone SIEMENS AG 29 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 60186/72 Heading H4J A microphone, particularly for monitoring heart pulse and heart noise, comprises a housing 5, 7, in which a piezoelectric element 1 is mounted, the element being carried on a support 3 which divides the housing into two cavities. Apertures 11 are provided through the housing wall to permit communication between an elastic medium, e.g. air, filling one of the cavities with the same elastic medium outside the housing. The second cavity is also filled with an elastic medium. The cavity volumes and the apertures are so dimensioned as to damp the crystal and enhance the response to heart pulse and heart noise. As described the piezo electric element 1 is encapsulated in the elastic material of the support 3, and a circuit plate 17 with apertures 19 is mounted in one of the cavities while an apertured plate 25 is mounted between the support 3 and the housing apertures 11 to obstruct the direct path and protect the element from damage. An electrocardiograph electrode 23 is provided on the face of the housing and the housing and connecting lead 21 are screened. The transducer 41, Fig. 2, is connected in series with a capacitor 42 to form a capacitive divider so that the fundamental of the heart pulse is emphasized in the signal fed out via the impedance transformer 35 while the transducer is connected in a differentiating circuit with resistor 46 to emphasize the heart noise component which is applied to the output via a high pass filter comprising capacitor 43 and resistor 45.
