1372749 Adducts of olefins and trichloromethane phosphonic dichloride RHONEPROGIL 16 March 1972 [17 March 1971] 12426/72 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] Novel adducts of Formula I: where Q is (a) (CR<SP>11</SP>R<SP>111</SP>-CRR<SP>1</SP>) n where R is -H, -F or C 1-6 alkyl; R<SP>1</SP> is -H, -F, C 1-8 alkyl or carb(C 1-12 )alkoxy; R<SP>11</SP> is -H, C 1-12 alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, -F, -Cl, -Br, -CN, carb(C 1-12 )alkoxy, -COOH, acyloxymethylene, acyloxypropylene, C 1-6 alkoxy, carboxyalkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, acyloxy, alkylsulphonyl, arylsulphonyl, chlorocarbonyl, aminocarbonyl or cyanoalkyl; and R<SP>111</SP> is -H, alkyl, -F, Cl or Br, or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> together with the C atoms to which they are attached form a ring system or R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> together with the C atom to which they are attached form a ring system; and n is an integer from 1 to 500, the units CR<SP>11</SP>R<SP>111</SP>-CRR<SP>1</SP> being similar or dissimilar when n is >1; (b) (CH 2 CR<SP>IV</SP>=CR<SP>V</SP>CH 2 ) m where R<SP>IV</SP> and R<SP>V</SP> are each -H, -CH 3 or -Cl and m is an integer from 1 to 200; or (c) a unit of formula forming part of a polymeric chain, may be prepared by reacting an olefinically mono- or polyunsaturated compound with trichloromethane phosphonic dichloride at elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst may be a free radical-forming compound or iron or copper or a compound of one of these metals. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a solvent for the catalyst.
