Abstract

1372676 Polymer adhesive for fabric interlinings CARL FREUDENBERG 30 March 1973 15422/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A polymer comprising units of (A) styrene; (B) acrylonitrile and (C) a C 1 -C 4 alkyl acrylate is used as a melt adhesive for attaching interlinings to fabrics. The polymer contains, per 100 parts by weight of A + B + C, 3-30 parts of A, 20-50 parts of B and 20-77 parts of C and has an intrinsic viscosity (in dimethylformamide at 30‹ C.) of 0À3-0À7 dl/g. and a melting point in the range 60-150‹ C. The polymer may be used in the form of a layer on a release paper, which can be transferred to the fabric or the interlining when required, or can be coated directly on to the lining material to form an iron-on interlining. The polymer layer is generally discontinuous and formed for example by spraying or printing a powder, solution or paste of the polymer on to the support. Bonding of the interlining, which is generally a non-woven fabric, to the outer fabric may be carried out by dry pressing or in the presence of steam.
