Abstract

1372505 Vehicle doors FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 31 Jan 1973 [1 Feb 1972] 4953/73 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] A vehicle door has an L-section reinforcing pressing 6 extending along the full width of the lower edge and provided with one or more projections 7, Fig. 2, which engage in stop plates 9 fixed to the vehicle sill in the event of a lateral collision of the vehicle tending to force the door into the passenger compartment. In a modification, Fig. 3, a pin 8 loaded by spring 11 runs over chamfer 12 of stop plate 10 as the door is shut and is depressed against the spring when the door is to be opened by a linkage 13 connected to the door handle. A seat belt anchorage may be provided on the pressing towards the rear end thereof.
