Abstract
1372186 Fluid jets for feeding yarns IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 45812/70 Headings D1E D1F and DIM Apparatus for transporting or treating a yarn e.g. in the stepwise introduction of lengths of weft across a warp in weaving, in warping and bearing or hot relaxing, comprises a yarn passageway 3, a fluid e.g. steam or compressed, optionally heated, air, entry port 7 (between yarn inlet and outlet in the passageway) having a baffle plate, as at 4, across the port opening in the passageway wall spaced a distance C therefrom and terminating a distance A therebeyond. A stream of fluid in passaegway 3 moves towards the yarn outlet as a layer past a portion only of the entire periphery of the passageway for at least part of the length thereof, thereby reducing the consumption of fluid. Two fluid entry ports, Fig. 3 (not shown) with separate baffles may operate in series. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, passageway 3 is formed in a cylindrical body 15 and the baffle is provided by a tube 16 which may be in the form of a screw-threaded insert (18) whereby its position is adjustable. A threading- up slot (17) in the body 15 and adjacent portion of tube 16 may give access to passageway 3.
