Abstract

1371848 Loud-speakers COLUMBIA BROADCASTING SYSTEM Inc 15 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 22608/72 Headings H4J and H4X [Also in Division G5] A loud-speaker system incorporating an acoustic pulsato apparatus comprises loudspeakers 10, the sound of which is passed through rotating pulsato rotors 40, 56, 58, 60 and is beamed forward out of the enclosure by means of reflectors 30, 32, which are joined to the enclosure walls 24, 26, 28 and floor and top 20, 22, thereby increasing the acoustic efficiency. Each speaker 10, (12), (14), (16) (not shown) is mounted coaxially with a rotor 40 &c., each of which is driven by a motor 48, belt 50 and pulley 46 (not shown), the sound being directed out of each lateral mouth 54, which by its rotational motion produces a Doppler effect with respect to each reflector 38 and thus the listener hears a frequency modulated tone. In a further embodiment pulsato rotors are mounted for rotation about a common vertical axis on a shaft, (not shown), and each contains a speaker the sound of which being directed through an outwardly opening sound channel and reflected from a simple parabolic reflector 102, Fig. 6 (not shown).
