Abstract
1371238 Drum screw conveyers UNITED CARR Ltd 11 Sept 1972 [14 June 1971] 27794/71 Heading B8A [Also in Divisions C7 and B2] Apparatus for treating (e.g. phosphating or chemically plating) small articles comprises a bath for liquid, an imperforate rotatable drum 11 placed at least partially in the bath with its axis horizontal, and means for rotating the drum, the drum 11 being open at both ends and having a helical flight 25 attached to its internal cylindrical surface, whereby articles fed into one end of the drum (at 34) are conveyed through the drum as it rotates. Small metal fasteners are fed from a vibrating hopper on to a magnetic conveyer belt which feeds them in at 34; the drum is rotated by chains driven by motor 12, which chains wrap round toothed cogs 24 and 24a, and bars 28 between flights 25 (which are flexible, e.g. of rubber) cause a tumbling effect. On leaving flight 25, articles pass into endportion 29 with axial vanes 30, which elevate the articles and drop them on to conveyer belt 35, which takes them to a chromic acid bath and to a collecting station (Fig. 1, not shown).
