Abstract

1370701 Collapsible push chairs W M LINES A N ALSOP and E A ROSS 14 Nov 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 147/72 Heading B7B In a pushchair comprising front and rear wheel carrying supports 5, 6, the front supports 5 are connected adjacent their upper ends via pivotal links 10 to a first mounting 11 and the upper ends of the rear supports 6 are pivotally connected to a second mounting 13, the mountings 11, 13 being movable relative to one another along a backbone 9. In a preferred embodiment further pivotal links 12 connect the link 10 to the mounting 13 which is slidable relative to the fixed mounting 11. Pivotal links 14, 17 connect the lower ends of the supports 5, 6 to a third mounting 16 fixed adjacent the front end of the backbone 9 and links 18 connect the lower ends of supports 6 through universal joints to a fourth mounting 19 on the backbone 9. The lower ends of front supports 5 are also interconnected by a pivotal chain link 20 held below a dead centre position and connected by flexible strap 22 to the backbone 9. A pushing handle 23 is pivoted to the mounting 13 and through a pivotal link 24 to the mounting 11. The handle 23 carries a cam lock 25 which can be engaged over the upper end of backbone 9 to locate the handle in its pushing position. A flexible fabric seat 26 having a harness belt 28 is mounted on the supports 5 by means of sleeves 27. To fold the chair the look 25 is released and the handle 23 folded backwards for mounting 13 to slide up backbone 9 and cause supports 5, 6 to move close thereto. This movement could also be achieved by the use of a pinion and rack. The end of handle 23 snaps behind a hook 29 in the fully closed position. The mountings are preferably made of a synthetics resin and the frame made of aluminium.
