Abstract
1370424 Sonar apparatus SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Sept 1971 [30 June 1970] 22550/74 Divided out of 1370422 Heading H4D The subject matter of the Specification is generally contained within Specification 1,370,422, but the claims relate to a sonar apparatus utilizing a display which includes a light source energized by successive echoes and which is scanned by a television camera used to drive a display, the range time base frequency of which is substantially less than the camera scanning frequency. The camera scans a line of neons or l.e.d.'s each representing a different direction channel. The television monitor display uses the camera scan as a line time-base which results in the frame time base representing range. Suitable deflection patterns may be chosen to provide a true polar co-ordinate display.
