Abstract
1370014 Machinery guards ATKINSONS OF CLITHEROE Ltd 11 July 1972 [2 July 1971] 31055/71 Headings F2J and F2U A plastics machinery guard 14 for a universally jointed telescopic rotary power take-off shaft 11, 15 on a tractor has an inwardly formed axially split beaded collar 17, or 33 (Fig. 2), providing a number of resilient fingers with radially inwardly directed semicircular section beaded ridges 21, or 35, by which the guard 14 is freely rotatably journalled on a grooved portion 23 of the P.T.O. shaft 11, the beaded ends of the fingers snap-engaging in the groove 23 to additionally axially locate the guard 14 and permit free relative rotation between the guard 14 and the shaft 11. A plastics tubular member 22, enclosing the telescopic P.T.O. shaft 11, is riveted or friction welded in an end socket 20 of the guard 14. A second similar guard (not shown) having a tubular member assembly forming a telescopic slidable fit within tube 22 completes the telescopic guard assembly for accommodating telescopic movements of the intermediate P.T.O. shaft of which only shaft 11 is shown. An adjacent interfitting guard 16 at each end of the telescopic guard assembly is mounted by an integral neck also formed with resilient beaded fingers which are similarly freely journalled in a grooved portion of a plastics sleeve secured to the driving or driven shaft as more specifically described in Specification 1,370,013.
