Abstract
1369815 Lamp failure indicators JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 16 March 1972 [24 April 1971] 11252/71 Heading G4N In a lamp failure indicator for a road vehicle, a first switch 12 completes the circuit to a first set of lamps 17a... 17d and a second switch 14 completes a circuit to the second set of lamps 19a, 19b. A warning device 24 is connected in a circuit which is completed when either the first or the second switch is closed, a first shortcircuit path 18a ... 18d being included for bridging the warning device 24 when all the lamps of the first set are energized, a second shortcircuit path 22a, 22b bridging the warning device 24 when all the lamps 19a, 19b of the second set are energized and has means 27 for opening the first short-circuit path whenever the second switch 14 is closed. As described, when switch 12 is closed the vehicle lighting lamps 17a ... 17d of the first set are energized, energizing relays 16a ... 16d and also energizing relay 28 via diode 29. The failure of any lamp 17a ... 17d will open one of the relay contacts 18a ... 18d and remove the short-circuit from the warning lamp 24. Operation of the brakes closes second switch 14 to light the stop lamps 19a, 19b; diode 32 releases relay 28 so that no test is made of the vehicle lighting lamps 17a ... 17d during braking. Failure of one of the stop lamps 19a, 19b, however, releases the appropriate relay 21a, 21b and removes the short-circuit from the warning lamp 24 imposed by contacts 22a, 22b. In Fig. 2 (not shown) diodes 29, 32 are omitted and a differentially-wound relay 28 is employed.
