Abstract

1368712 After treatment of dyed cellulose CIBA-GEIGY AG 6 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 31775/72 Heading D1B The wet fastness properties of dyeings or prints produced on cellulosic fibre material with substantive dyes is improved by treating at 20 to 120‹C with a preparation which comprises a fixing agent which is an addition product of formaldehyde with a methylolatable nitrogen compound (as defined), a substantially water insoluble organic solvent or solvent mixture, 0 to 10% by weight of water, relative to the weight of the preparation and optionally an organic-soluble dispersing agent. The dyes are preferably applied in aqueous preparations followed by drying. The fixing agent may be a methylol melamine, methylol urea, a methylolated derivative of ethylene urea or of dicyandiamide or of propylene urea or of guanyl urea, acetylene diurea or 4, 5-dihydroxy-imidazolid-2-one, or such a methylolated compound partially or completely etherified with one or more C 1 to C 5 alkanols. The solvents employed include benzene, halogenated benzene, benzene substituted by one or more C 1 to C 4 alkyl groups, 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane, trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene. The fixing agent is preferably used in amounts of 0.1 to 10% by weight based on the weight of the fibre material.
