1368514 Controlling presses VERSON ALLSTEEL PRESS CO 8 March 1972 [22 March 1971] 10801/72 Heading B3H [Also in Division B5] A metal working press has the movement of its ram controlled electrically by an operator control station 63a<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, with stop and start push-buttons connected to an electrical socket 62 on the press frame through a connector duplicating unit 63a. The duplicator unit 63a provides one or more outlet sockets 73 to which one or more control stations 63a<SP>1</SP> can be connected. The duplicator unit 63a has press stop and start push-buttons PB1, PB2, PB3 similar to those of the control station 63a<SP>1</SP> and its circuitry is such as to connect the switches in series. The control station 63a<SP>1</SP> may be a circuit terminal unit, i.e. have no output socket, or, as shown, have an outlet socket 73. In order to terminate the circuit a dummy unit 75 is used in the outlet socket. If anly one control station is needed then the dummy unit 75 may be plugged into the outlet socket 73 of the duplicating unit, Fig. 3. The duplicating unit has sixteen contacts in its connections and these contacts engage corresponding contacts in the press socket, Fig. 4A (not shown). The control stations have similarly arranged contacts as also has the dummy unit, however, as a safety measure, the dummy unit does not have a jumper connection between connections (2), (2<SP>1</SP>) to prevent operation of the press if the dummy is inserted directly into the press socket 62. The control stations can be arranged at spaced positions around the press although only one socket 62 is provided. Further by using the duplicating unit any number of stations can be provided. The circuits of the stations are connected in series so that the press only operates when all the start buttons are pressed. There are two start buttons at each station to prevent accidental operation of the press. The press socket is connected to solenoids of a clutch brake assembly of the press which may be arranged for continuous, single or inch operation.
