Abstract
1367320 Pneumatic suspension systems AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 19 July 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 43237/71 Heading B7D In a pneumatic suspension system, an air spring 11 supporting the weight of the vehicle on each wheel is associated with a bellows chamber 12 the volume of which is varied by a doubleacting hydraulic ram 13 having a control valve 15 actuated by a pendulum 23, 24 which is sensitive to dynamic forces acting laterally or longitudinally, or both laterally and longitudinally of the vehicle to increase the amount of air in the spring when the spring is subjected to increased loading by the dynamic forces and to reduce the amount of air in the spring when the spring is subjected to reduced loading, and a feed-back lever 26 acts on the pendulum 23, 24 through springs 27 to limit the increase or decrease in accordance with the change in weight distribution. The control valve 15 has a spool 29 which is linked to the pendulum 23, 24 to control fluid flow between the ram cylinder 14 and a reservoir 17 and an accumulator 18 supplied by a pump 16. The pendulum 23, 24 has a fluid damper 28 and may be mounted to swing in a transverse plane only or in a longitudinal plane only, or it may swing in an oblique plane so that it responds to both lateral and longitudinal forces.
