Abstract

1367011 Shearing J J RIDGEWAY 3 Nov 1972 [25 Nov 1971 7 Feb 1972] 50821/72 Heading B3W [Also in Division F3] A linear shaped-charge for cutting metal pipes and other workpieces under water comprises an annular chamber 6 containing an explosive charge, and a gas-tight stand-off chamber A. The shaped charge is carried by a spider 23 and includes an inflatable tube 24 used for displacing the water between the charge and the pipe. The linear 5 has a thickness between 0À162 and 0À198 inch and an apex angle of 82-88 degrees. The stand-off distance is at least 2 inches and preferably 3¥ inches. The casing of the charge is made of extruded aluminium. The explosive is a mixture of liquid components which individually, are non-explosive. A charge, Fig. 2 (not shown), for clamping around the outside of pipes comprises two semicircular parts (10, 10<SP>1</SP>) hinged together.
