Abstract
1366879 Articulated vehicles HUDSWELL YATES DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 24 Nov 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 56078/70 Heading B7H [Also in Division A1] The vehicle comprises a rear part with tow bar 19 coupled to a tractor having only rear wheels 12 by a universal joint 24 with a further universal joint 29 arranged directly above or below the joint 24 and coupled to the tractor via a rigid rod 50 which may be extensible and is secured to the tractor by universal joint 33. The rod 50 may comprise a ram whereby weight can be transferred from the rear part to the tractor Two rods 50, one above and one below the joint 24 can be used. The coupling allows pivoting about a vertical axis and tilting about a longitudinal axis whilst resisting vertical movement of the rear part relative to the tractor. Steering can be effected by rams extending between the tow bar 19 and laterally spaced points on the tractor. The rear part can be driven by an hydraulic motor 46 in turn driven by a variable displacement pump on the tractor.
