Abstract

1366770 Offshore structures TAYLOR WOODROW CONSTRUCTION Ltd 27 March 1973 [4 April 1972] 15546[72 Heading E1H A submersible concrete structure for storing oil or other fluids, or for supporting a platform, comprises a cellular base 2 with a perimeter wall 4, a plurality of storage containers 1 and a central column 7, or a plurality of columns, Fig. 9 .(not shown), the structure being towed to the required location and submerged by introducing ballast water into the cellular base, the containers and the space between the containers and the wall 4, Figs. 3 to 6 (not shown). Ducting 16, 16A, 16B connects the tops of the containers 1 to a surge tank 11 and an oil supply and discharge pipe (17), Fig. 7 (not shown) water being displaced from the containers during filling or introduced into the containers during discharge via ducts 14, 15 and a separator chamber 12. The level in chamber 12 is kept below the external water level to prevent bursting of containers 1. Valves 19 admit ballast water through wall 4. The chambers within base 2 are interconnected by apertures 3. Keys 6A, 6B or support pads are provided beneath base 2. The space enclosed by wall 4 may be filled with sand when submerged.
