Abstract
1366429 Laminated electrode HOOKER CHEMICAL CORP 13 June 1972 [ 30 June 1971(2)] 27642/72 Heading C7B An electrode comprises an inner plate 1, two outer plates 3 and 4 and an outer coating 5. The inner plate 1 is made of an electrically conducting material e.g. Al, Cu, Fe or alloys thereof and the outer plates 3 and 4 are made of a valve metal i.e. Ti, Ta, Nb. The outer coating may be noble metal i.e. Ru, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir noble metal alloy or noble metal oxide. The inner plate has one or more slots 17 issuing from one edge. The electrode is assembled by welding the outer plates to the inner plate. The outer plates are welded together around the edge so as to encapsulate the inner plate. The outer coating may be applied by electro-plating, electropheresis vapour deposition, electroless plating or by cladding. The electrodes may be joined together by metal sections to form a multi-plate electrode unit. The electrode is suitable for alkali metal halide cells, electrodialysis of brackish water and cathodic protection.
