Abstract

1365732 Heat treating filaments MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 1 July 1971 [4 July 1970] 30909/71 Heading D1F [Also in Division B5] A process for heat treating continuous filaments, e.g. filaments having potential crimpability, comprises overfeeding the filaments through ejector 3, Fig. 1, from which a hot fluid is ejected, to cause the filaments to pass through heated chamber 5, and spraying heated fluid onto the filaments, in a direction transverse to their axis, through spray ring 4. During spraying, the filaments are maintained under a tension -not greater than 1 mg/denier. The spray ring comprises chambers 13, 13', Fig. 2, into which hot fluid is passed through ducts 10, 10' to flow through porous metal ring 14 to strike the filaments. The heat treatment of filaments made of two polyethylene terephthalate polymers, and of filaments made of two polycapramides, is exemplified.
