Abstract

1364349 Theft alarms ICI AMERICA Inc 21 Dec 1972 [20 Jan 1972] 59073/72 Heading G4N Apparatus for indicating the unauthorized removal of property through a localized detection field comprises means for preventing actuation of an alarm signal until the apparatus has entered and left the field, actuation of the alarm being initiated by the apparatus leaving the field. As described, the circuit is mounted in a dummy packet of bank notes, and is normally held deactivated by a magnetic switch 72 operated by a magnet in a cash desk drawer. When the packet is removed, switch 72 closes to connect the power supply to the circuit. Transistor 200 is then turned on so that diode 228 clamps point 230 to line 100. If the circuit is moved into an R.F. field of appropriate frequency, a signal is picked up by coils 106, 108 amplfiied by amplifiers 114, 146 and rectified by diodes 170, 172 to provide a D.C. control signal at the emitter of transistor 180. This signal fires SCR 190 to turn transistor 200 off, and is also applied to transistor 202 to turn it on, so that point 230 is still clamped to line 100 as long as the circuit remains in the R.F. field. If the circuit is now removed from the field, transistor 202 turns off again and point 230 is no longer clamped but can rise in potential as capacitor 226 charges through resistor 224. If the circuit remains out of the field the potential at point 230 will turn on unijunction transistor 250 after a predetermined delay and fire SCR 260 to initiate an alarm, e.g. smoke or explosion. If the circuit is returned to the field before unijunction 250 turns on, transistor 202 becomes conducting again, discharging capacitor 226 and preventing initiation of the alarm.
