Abstract
1363918 Filters WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 5 Aug 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 36770/71 Heading H3U A crystal filter comprises, mounted on a piezo-electric wafer, input, and output, resonators 1, 8 operating in a thickness shear mode, between which are situated short circuited intermediate resonators some of which are connected to an input terminal of the filter, the remainder being grounded, or "floating". The change of attenuation on the skirts of the passband is thus increased. As shown, there are six intermediate resonators of which one, two or three may be connected together and to the input, the remainder being grounded, Figs. 2, 3; Figs. 4-7 (not shown), or two interconnected resonators are connected to the input, with two more "floating", Fig. 8. Frequency-attenuation curves are given, Figs. 2A-9A (not shown), and the effect of the intermediate resonators on such curves can be determined experimentally Figs. 10, 10A, 11, 11A (not shown), and understood in terms of a primary wave produced by the input resonator, interacting with a secondary wave produced by the short circuited intermediate resonators connected to an input terminal. The filter exhibits energy trapping consequent upon mass loading by the electrodes.
