Abstract

1363771 Piezoelectric devices B TOCQUET and M PERSONNIC 26 Oct 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 49796/71 Heading H4J A stack of piezoelectric plates, e.g. discs, 9 (Fig. 1), alternating with electrodes 10 is secured within a casing 8 by a rigid inner member 1 secured to the stack and constituting one of the electrodes 10, a rigid outer member 2 secured to the easing 8 and a deformable coupling member 3 between the rigid members 1, 2. The rigid members 1, 2 interengage with a clearance fit and define between them a seating in which is disposed the deformable coupling member 3. Casing 8 is fluid-tight and the device is for subaqueous signalling. The coupling member 3 is made of one or several discs of rubber or synthetic elastomer and is secured to the faces of members 1, 2. In use the coupling member 3 is at a nodal plane of vibration. As described, the members 1 and 2 are annular, member 1 being of aluminium alloy and member 2 being of steel. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a clip (6) and stop (7) limit the relative movement of the members 1, 2.
