Abstract

1363727 Sewing SINGER CO 12 July 1971 [16 July 1970] 32562/71 Heading D1G A monogramming attachment uses a double sided cam disc 44 to guide the feed blade 20 which pivots about a screw 54 (Fig. 3) which passes through the slot 60 in the feed plate and is secured to the attachment frame 50 at 53 (Fig. 9). The sewing machine presser bar is accommodated in a seat 25, and the cam shaft 128 is rotated in steps via a lever arm 26 which embraces a needle clamp at 27. The lever arm 26 rotates the cam shaft 128 via a linkage arm 98 and a pawl arrangement 91 which operates on the serrated edge of a ratchet wheel 120 keyed to the cam shaft and which has a smooth edge segment 123 to prevent automatic repetition of the monogramming cycle. A manual cam indexing lever 28 is provided, as is a stitch density control lever 110 which has a lock nut 30 to clamp it in the desired position to enable the driving pawl to move the ratchet teeth the required distance on each oscillation. Operation. On a supporting plate 143, which is secured to but spaced from the plate 50, a follower arm 145 is pivoted at 144. A pin 146 on the arm follows the lower cam surface while another pin extends downwards through a slot 64 in the feed blade 20 to cause the feed blade to turn about the screw 54. The upper cam surface is tracked by a pin 42 on the hinged arm 41 of a slide plate 150, which is capable of limited longitudinal sliding movement relatively to the support plate 143 facilitated by screws or nuts 153, 154 passing through slots 151, 152 in the slide plate and held in plate 143. A pin 155 extending from the slide plate passes through the clearance slot 156 in plate 143 and through a slot 65 in plate 20 to cause plate 20 to slide with the slide plate. The monogramm stitch pattern is not usually a closed loop (e.g. for the letter "S") and the beginning and end do not coincide, so the smooth segment 123 on the ratchet wheel stops the feed plate moving at the end of the cycle. The work fabric is removed and the cam returned to the beginning of the cycle using finger lever 28. The hinged arm 41 is held against the interchangable cam by a spring 15 in the lid 13.
