Abstract
136,354. Hutchinson, G. V. V. Jan. 28, 1919. Two-stroke-cycle engines.-An engine of the kind in which the cylinder contains two pistons working in opposite directions comprises a working cylinder a fitted with a piston e connected by a rod j to a central crank m, and a piston d connected by a cross-beam u, rods r, s, cross-heads f, g in the form of pistons working in cylinders b, c, and connecting-rods k, l to cranks m<1>. The piston f compresses a charge of air, and the piston g a charge of air and fuel. The cylinders b, care connected to the cylinder a by pipes p, q, the inlet ports n, o of which are arranged so that, after the piston e has uncovered the exhaust ports t, the piston d uncovers, first the port n admitting a charge of air, and then the port o admitting a charge of fuel and air.
