Abstract
1362565 Liquid heaters FULTON BOILER WORKS Inc 14 July 1971 [5 Oct 1970] 32990/71 Heading F4A A liquid having a boiling point higher than water at the operating pressure is heated by introducing the liquid into an annular chamber 11 through an inlet 14 arranged at a tangent to the chamber periphery and withdrawing it through an outlet 15 parallel to the chamber's central axis so that the liquid follows a helical flow path through the chamber, and is heated by conduction through the chamber walls. The heater has an insulated jacket 19 and a gas burner 23, 24, 25 wherein gas is mixed with air from a blower 22 and ignited after passing a deflector 25, the burner causing the combustion gases to whirl as they pass down the combustion chamber. The combustion gases then pass up through an annular flue provided with longitudinal ribs to exit through an outlet 27. The burner may also be located at the bottom or the middle of the unit. The liquid, for example mineral oil, diphenyldiphenyl oxide mixture, chlorinated biphenyl, silicone, a silate or silane, polyglycol, or a polyphenyl ether or ester, is supplied to chamber 11 by a pump 10 and withdrawn through an outlet 15 for use in a heating circuit; a pressure indicator and pressure fluctuation reliever may be included in the circuit. The liquid may be introduced through several tangential inlets and withdrawn through several outlets.
