Abstract
1361920 Lighting furnaces; incinerators COMBUSTION POWER CO Inc 12 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 57352/72 Heading F4B A fluidized bed in an incinerator is preheated by passing hot gases downwardly through the bed. An outlet valve 19 below the refuse hopper 17 of an incinerator having a fluidized bed 13 is closed, together with a valve 23 in the outlet from the region above the bed and a valve 35 in the duct supplying fluidized air below the bed. A blower 39 supplies air to a heater 45 opening to the space above the bed, and the hot gases are exhausted from a valved branch 49 leading from the fluidizing air supply duct. The preheating gas supply is at lower pressure than would be needed to fluidize the bed. When the bed is sufficiently hot, valves 43 and 51 in the preheating air inlet and exhaust branch 49 are closed, and the other valves opened for normal operation.
