Abstract
1361403 Planting machines RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd 1 July 1971 [2 July 1970] 32166/70 Heading AID [Also in Division G4] A machine for planting bulbs or tubers has means for storing bulbs or tubers, e.g. a hopper 5, conveying means, e.g. belt 7 and a means (see Division G4) for sensing the bulbs or tuber conveyed to the ground and generating an electrical sensing signal of frequency representative of the rate at which bulbs or tubers are supplied to the ground. Also included are electrical storage means and means for applying the sensing signal to the storage means, whereby the storage means generates an output signal which represents the number of cycles of the sensing signal applied thereto in a preceding interval of time. This gives the operator or driver an indication of the rate at which bulbs or tubers are supplied to the ground. In addition a second sensing signal may be obtained representative of the speed of the vehicle over the ground and the two signals are compared and an output signal is provided representative of the spacing of the bulbs or tubers on the ground. This output signal may be displayed by means of lamps situated near the operator and also to control means which tilts the hopper either to increase or decrease the supply of bulbs or tubes dependant on whether hte output signal from the signal comparting means corresponds to a value of plant spacing chosen by the operator. The machine may have two hoppers situated at the front of a chassis on either side of the longitudinal axis.
