Abstract

1361110 Matrix displays NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO 1 Nov 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 50365/72 Heading G5C [Also in Division H1] A display device comprises two insulating plates 10, (12), Fig. 2 (not shown), the first supporting two or more sets 30 of electrodes and non-crossing connections between electrodes of different sets, the second supporting common electrodes (50) each of which is associated with one set. In a gas discharge panel the members are spaced by an opaque plate (14) with gas filled apertures corresponding to the electrodes of the sets. The electrodes are separated from the gas by insulating layers (32), (52). A decimal point electrode 66 and keep alive electrodes 72 are also supported on plate 10 and co-operating interconnected electrodes (78), (80) on the other plate. In another embodiment the sets include diagonal electrodes; some electrodes on one side of the set are connected to electrodes on the other side; and the common electrodes are each divided into two separately energized members. The electrode arrangement may be used in liquid crystal panels.
