Abstract

1360850 Spraying can bodies NORDSON CORP 10 Sept 1971 [28 Sept 1970] 42418/71 Headings B2E and B2L In a method of coating the internal surfaces of can bodies with a protective material, the can bodies are preheated and sprayed with the preheated material which is solid at ambient temperatures whilst they are rotated relative to the spraying nozzles. Can bodies to be sprayed are passed through an infeed chute 32 in which they are heated. From the chute they pass between the arms of an indexing wheel 16 to be located adjacent a spray nozzle 6. At this point they actuate a sensor 50 which causes the nozzle 6 to spray a preheated coating material. The cans are rotated by a driven belt 35 and also by a wheel 15 mounted coaxial with but independantly of the wheel 16. After spraying the can bodies pass to a discharge chute 69 where rotation is maintained by a driven belt 70 to maintain an even coating on the cans. The coating material is a wax which is normally solid at ambient temperature and is fed to the spray nozzle by a pump from a heated reservoir and is discharged as an "airless spray" from the nozzle.
