Abstract
1360064 Heat pumps; installations for heating or cooling air; air conditioning units RINIPA AB 29 June 1971 30516/71 Headings F4H F4S and F4V An air conditioning plant, for use particularly in heating and cooling buildings having stairways and cellars, includes evaporating and condensing heat exchangers which are designed in such a manner that they can switch function. In operation, incoming air to the rooms 10, 11 is divided between branch conduits 14, 15; outgoing air passing through conduit 16. Heat exchangers 20, 21, which form parts of a heat pump unit 9, are provided in the said conduits 16, 14 respectively. The heat exchangers are formed into a cylindrical drum 27, which is subdivided into a number of sector-shaped heat exchange packages 31-42. Each package, which is formed of a number of pipe coils provided with external fins, may function as a condenser or as an evaporator. The incoming air passes through the drum from below by way of an internal rotating distributer housing 25, while the evacuated air from conduit 16 passes the unit from above by way of an outer conical shaped housing 26. On the principle of a rotary regenerative heat exchanger, either the drum is stationary and the housing 25, having sectorshaped baffles 28, rotates, or vice-versa, preferably the housing rotates and simultaneously operates a valve arrangement. Consequently continuous defrosting will occur. Throttling conduits 45-48 between condensers and evaporators are in the core of the drum. The diametrically opposite sectors 31, 32 and 37, 38, operate in the position illustrated as evaporators, while sectors 34, 35 and 40, 41 operate as condensers. Sectors 33, 36, 39 and 42 are simultansously covered by the rotating plates 28. The refrigeration system includes a high pressure conduit 43, a low pressure conduit 44. Between each annular conduit and the various sectors there are branch conduits, each being provided with a valve, governed by the housing 25, in order to constantly switch the functions of the heat exchange packages. As shown, low pressure valves 36L and 42L are also open to drain the pertaining sectors 36 and 42 in preparation for the transfer of functions.
