Abstract

1359972 Machines for washing floors &c. UPO OSAKEYHTIO 18 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972] 2701/73 Heading A4F [Also in Division B1] In a machine for washing floors, carpets and windows, foam is continuously fed to and removed from a washing implement 1 which comprises one or more stationary or rotating brushes. The machine comprises two tanks 2, 3, containing washing liquid, and an air fan 5 which is connected thereto by passages provided with valves 8, 21, 11, the fan 5 also being connected to the atmosphere via valves 13, 14. Tank 3 is provided with a filter 19 which prevents passage of foam to the fan inlet. The valves 8, 21, 11, 13, 14 are in the form of apertures in two concentric cylinders, the outer cylinder being rotatable by a lever to three operating positions, in each of which a set of apertures coincide so as to open the corresponding passages. Thus in position 1, valves 11, 14 are open and valves 13, 8, 21 closed. Thus on activation of the fan 5, the reduced pressure in tank 3 draws foam from the implement 1 via a removable filter 24. In position 2, valve 8 is open and valve 14 closed, foam being produced in tank 2 by air exiting passage 6 and forced through passage 20 to the implement 1. Should the liquid level in tank 2 fall excessively, an overpressure is produced in tank 3 by opening valves 21, 13 and closing valves 8, 11, 14, thereby forcing liquid from tank 3 to tank 2, this being position 3 of the lever.
