Abstract

1359889 Perchlorofluoromethanes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Oct 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 51957/71 Heading C2C Perchlorofluoromethanes are produced by reacting (a) a fluoropropane or fluoropropene having at least one H atom, or (b) a chlorofluoropropane or chlorofluoropropene with chlorine in the absence of a catalyst at 500-700‹ C., the proportion of chlorine being at least 4 moles per mole of organic starting material. The starting material may be a monofluoropropane, difluoropropane, or a mixture thereof, and is preferably treated with 4-12 moles of chlorine per mole of starting material. The by-products are advantageously recycled to the process.
