Abstract

1359648 Measuring ship's roll electrically EMI Ltd 29 Oct 1971 [31 Oct 1970] 51863/70 Heading G1N Apparatus for determining the roll frequency of a ship, which bears a known relationship with the ship's loading condition, comprises a variable capacitor 5 Fig. 2, measuring the instantaneous roll angle, which determines the mark/space ratio of a multi-vibrator 6, the pulse train output being fed to a first integrator 7 with a long time constant and a second integrator 8 with a short time constant, the difference between their outputs, obtained at 9 and limited at 10, being a pulse train synchronous with the rolling motion of the ship. The pulse duration, i.e. the periodic time of the roll motion, is measured by a clock generator 12 and indicated in analogue form on a meter 16.
