Abstract

1357886 Making reinforced flexible hoses DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 15 Oct 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 49084/70 Heading F2P In a method of manufacturing reinforced flexible hose, a hose carcass of curable material is cooled to render it rigid prior to the application thereon of at least one layer of reinforcement. The cooling is effected in apparatus comprising a chamber through which the hose carcass is passed continuously and wherein it is sprayed with a liquefied gas, e.g. liquid nitrogen, the liquid gas evaporating on contact with the hose thus also cooling the chamber which leads, via an extension, to a reinforcement applying machine. The cooling apparatus may be attached to a. conventional reinforcement application machine, e.g. winding or braiding machines and a multi-layer reinforcement may be applied to the hose carcass by repeatedly cooling the carcass by spraying with liquefied gas before the carcass enters each winding or braiding head. The liquefied gas may be sprayed from a length of tube in the cooling chamber having holes therealong.
