Abstract
1357800 Flushing apparatus J L GIBBS and J W GIBBS 14 July 1971 32985/71 Heading E1C A flushing system, particularly for a W.C., comprises a hermetically sealed tank of rectangular form having a cut-away portion 11; a feed pipe 16 to the tank constantly supplied with water under pressure; a discharge valve assembly consisting of a tube 28, the lower portion of which communicates with the tank via an opening 29, a valve 34 which is carried by a vertically slidable rod 38, and a rolling diaphragm-piston assembly 44, 47 secured to the rod 38 for sealing the lower portion of the tube 28 from the upper portion, which is vented to atmosphere via an orifice 42; and a check valve-controlled air vent formed by a tube 18 extending from an inlet, formed by two apertured discs 26, 27, which is outside through the top wall of upper tank portion 14, to a point in the lower tank portion 12 between platform 15, formed by the cut-away portion 11, and the opening 29, and which incorporates a buoyant check valve 22 adapted to remain engaged with a seat 20 so long as the water level is above the level of the seat 20. Actuation of the discharge valve is effected by pulling a cable 54 connected between the rod 38 and a manually-operated handle (58, Fig. 1, not shown). When this handle is released to close valve 34 after the tank has been emptied, a spring 62, bearing against an adjustable collar 60 on the rod 38, maintains the valve 34 slightly open until the water level in the tank has risen sufficiently. for water pressure to overcome the spring 62 and fully close the valve.
