Abstract
1357306 Vapour deposited coatings SOC NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION 27 April 1972 [27 April 1971] 19584/72 Heading C7F The carbide, nitride or carbonitride of Ti is vapour coated on a substrate by heating the substrate with (a) an alloy consisting of 15-50% Ti and at least one of Fe, Ni, Co and Cr and (b) a fluoride or chloride of an alkali metal or NH 4 to 800- 1150‹C in an inert gas containing at least one of NH 3 , N 3 and hydrocarbons. The substrates are Fe, Ni, Co or alloys based on them, Ti, Nb, Ta alloys, C, graphite or B fibres, WC or Co cemented WC. The Tu alloy 7 may be 1-5 mm granules supported in a perforated sheet or basket 8 and separated from the substrates 9 in chamber 1 in muffle furnace 4. The required gases are introduced at 11 and 12 and the system is evacuated via 13. The process is operated at super atmospheric, atmospheric or sub atmospheric pressure.
