Abstract

1357058 Toy sailplanes; kites A QUERCETTI 9 Nov 1972 [16 Nov 1971] 51709/72 Heading A6S [Also in Division B7] A toy sailplane or kite comprises a framework of members 3 and 4 interconnected by fitting 5 and secured by further fittings 6, 7, 8 to corners of a sail or aerofoil which is slack when not airborne and in flight assumes a curvature such that a channel is formed on each side of member 3. Corners C are unsupported but they may be braced by battens 13 and the construction is such that forward panels 1 assume a positive incidence in flight and rear panels 2 assume a negative incidence. Each fitting 6-8 is mounted for free rotation on the end of its respective framework member and is formed with a flattened extension 6'-8' to engage in a pocket in the respective corner of the sail to facilitate free movement thereof during pitch and camber changing movements. A tow line may be attached to a selected one of a plurality of laterally-spaced pins on a member 10 attached to member 3 and to prevent rotation of this fitting it is connected to fitting 5 by an intermediate length 3" of non-circular cross-section.
