Abstract
1356939 Transport system BOATS FITTINGS CO Ltd 9 Aug 1971 [10 Sept 1970] 43376/70 Heading B7L A transport system comprises first and second sections of track 10 and 12 respectively for carriages to travel on, the end 14 of the first section 10 terminating short of and out of alignment with the beginning 16 of the second section 12, an intermediate track portion 18 capable of supporting a carriage 36 and movable between a first position A in which it is aligned with the first section 10 only, to receive a carriage therefrom, and a second position (B) in which the track portion 18 is aligned with the second section 12 only, to release a carriage thereonto, and means for moving the track portion 18 between the two positions A and B. The end 14 of the first section 10 is below the beginning 16 of the second section 12, and a carriage 36 is prevented in position A from passing to section 12 by abutment with beginning 16 and in position B from passing from section 10 to track portion 18 by abutment with the end of the latter 18. An endless conveyer means 48 may have pick-up members 44, 46 to push the carriages 36 along the second track section 12 and switch means formed by pilot valves 51, 52, 53 and 54 triggered by a member 50 moving with the conveyer means 48 to operate a pneumatic cylinder 28 thus pivoting track portion 18 between its positions A and B. Contact of member 50 with valves 51 or 53 causes upward movement of portion 18; with valves 52 or 54 causes downward movement. A stop member 45 may be arranged between two pick-up members 44 and 46 so that after a first carriage 36 has been engaged by the first pick-up member 44, track portion 18 will move the following carriage 36<SP>1</SP> into position B between members 45 and 46, whereby the stop member 45 limits the extent to which carriage 36<SP>1</SP> can close up on carriage 36. The apparatus is suitable for use in a slaughterhouse to carry carcasses 43.
