1356816 Rotating pick up gramophones YUGEN-KAISHA WATANABE KENKYUSHO 20 Aug 1971 [12 May 1971] 39165/71 Heading G5R In a stationary record, rotating pick up, gramophone, the pivotal movement of a record holder 34, when loaded with a rectangular record 27 carrying a spiral groove, to its closed and latched position automatically energizes the gramophone. When the record is entered into the holder and this is moved to its latched position an actuator 39 operates switch 40, 41 in the supply to drive motor 6. This via belt 10 drives a first rotary plate 8 on which a second plate 12 is pivotally mounted on shaft 11. The second plate 12 carries loud-speaker 13 having a spring 15 extending between the apex of its cone and the plate 8 and the upward pivotal movement of the plate is limited by stop 16 mounted on plate 8. A vibration transmitting element 17 extends from the apex of the speaker cone to a rod 18 extending upwardly from plate 12 and a bracket 19 on the frame 14 of the speaker supports a shaft 20 on which pick up arm 21 is carried. In operation the stylus 22 on the pick up arm is urged into engagement with the record by the pressure applied by spring 15 via the speaker apex, the vibration transmitting element 17 and the pick up arm. The engagement of the pick up arm with the element 17 transmits the sound signals to the speaker cone. At the end of record play, an extension 26 on the pivot end of the pick up arm engages an extension of latch release arm 29 whereby holder 34 pivots upwardly, under the action of spring 35, to its unlatched position. The pick up arm now disengaged from the record is pivoted back to its start position by spring 23.
