Abstract

1356633 Regulating ALFA ROMEO SpA 21 July 1971 [4 Aug 1970] 34299/71 Heading F1B Fuel injection to an I.C. engine in thermally steady conditions is regulated by a first device responsive to one engine operating condition and by a second device responsive to two engine operating conditions. The first device comprises diaphragm 13 responsive to the pressure in intake passage 15 and, by means of rack 40 and pinion 39, rotates body 42 of a rheostat in the control circuit of a fuel injection pump. The second device comprises a follower 33 which adheres to a cam 36, the follower being moved along line L Fig. 2 in response to throttle opening and along line F Fig. 1 in response to rotation of the cam arising from variation in pressure in passage 15. Rotation of the follower 33 about shaft 50 causes, by means of links 49, 47 and 45, rotation of contact 43' of the rheostat. The second device may be responsive to throttle opening and engine speed. A valve controlled by lever 57 manually or automatically in response to atmospheric pressure may be provided. A valve in tube 55 is controlled manually or by thermostat in response to the steady condition engine temperature. In another embodiment, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown) the fuel injection pump is mechanically controlled by a rack (63) linked to rack (40a) and follower (33a).
