Abstract
1356255 Ignition jet RADIATION Ltd 23 June 1971 [2 July 1970] 32161/70 Heading F4F An ignition jet for lighting a plurality of gas burners of an appliance which are located in different directions from the jet comprises main flame ports 70 associated with the respective burners, an annular auxiliary carrier and retention flame port 69 and a gas supply duct 72 feeding the main ports 70, the auxiliary port 69 being in restricted communication with the duct through orifices 76. The main ports 70 are formed in a cap 68 screwed to a mounting member 67 which co-operates with a supply member 66 to define the auxiliary port 69. The port 69 is provided with a washer 80, e.g. of expanded metal, to equalize gas flow and serves to ensure lighting of the main ports and, in the case of natural gas, retention of the main flames. When natural gas is used a restrictor 79 is fitted, a wire is inserted in orifices 76 and a cap 68 having suitably sized flame ports is fitted. In the Fig. 7 embodiment the main flame ports 143 and auxiliary ports 145 are fed through two bores 134 and 135 of different cross-sectional areas and a cross bore 136 sealed by a screw 137. For natural gas a longer screw 138 is inserted to block the entrance to the bore 135. In a third embodiment a flame distribution head which provides the main flame ports is screwed into a counterbore in a supply member and a notched knife-edge at the end of the distribution head is thereby crushed to restrict the notch. In a fourth embodiment a supply member carries at its end through the intermediary of a castellated disc an inverted cup whose depending skirt portion defines with the periphery of the supply member an annular auxiliary flame port above the main flame ports which are formed in the supply member. In use the ignition jet is fed by any of four pipes when the appropriate control tap for one of four burners on a hotplate is turned past the " full-on " position and is then ignited by a permanent pilot, glow coil or spark igniter to send out long ignition flames to the four burners. Alternatively a spring-loaded pushbutton device may be used to open a gas valve in a gas line to the ignition jet.
