1355938 Making filled wafer biscuits F HAAS 10 Feb 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 6306/72 Heading A2A [Also in Division B8] Filled wafer biscuits are produced in a machine comprising a conveyer belt 2, at least one wafer sheet laying device 4 comprising a magazine 5 and an extractor conveyer 6 for transferring wafer sheets from the magazine to a well 7 over the conveyer 2, and at least one coating device 8 for applying filling material to the wafer sheets on the conveyer belt. The machine shown has three wafer sheet laying devices 4, 4', 4" of which each except the first is followed by a pressing roller 11, 11', and two coating devices 8, 8' each of which comprises a cream reservoir (not shown), an applicator roller 9 and a wiper 10 whereby a curtain of cream 23 is deposited on the wafers. Wafers are accommodated between rows of prongs 20 extending across the conveyer 2. Engagement of a prong with a microswitch 21, 21', 21" initiates operation of the corresponding extractor conveyer 6 whereby a wafer is transferred to the well 7, a support roller (not shown) keeping the wafer substantially horizontal until it is clear of the conveyer 6. Downward movement of the wafer is then assisted by air jets (not shown), and the passage of the wafer down the well interrupts a light beam to stop the extractor conveyer 6. The well 7 has slots, and the rollers 11, 11' are grooved, to allow the passage of the prongs.
